Diane. If the battery is bad, even one cell, then a
proper working univolt will make the battery boil.
Check each cell with a hydrometer. All the cells
should be near equal. However, if one cell is more
than about 25 points different than the rest, then the
battery is history. Have someone check the univolt
output. It should be very close to 13.5 volts DC. If
it's over about 14.2, then a replacement univolt will
solve the problem.   Max
