Re: [A/S] Help with wood flooring

Bob,

There's been a good bit of discussion on flooring on the list, so a search
of Tom Patterson's archives will yield a motherlode of info. I share your
aversion to Pergo.

We went with Home Depot/Lowe's parquet flooring at a buck or so a foot for
our '76 25' Trade Wind. I put it down over existing vinyl as a "floating
floor." That is, I glued the edges of the parquet tiles together but did not
glue the tiles to the subfloor. I finished with quarter-round all around. I
also coated the parquet (which was already factory finished) with three
coats of a fast-drying polyurethane).

Since the floor job, the trailer has been out for two short but bumpy 8-hour
round trips, and the floor has done just fine.

We like the way it looks and find it easier to keep clean than carpet. (We
have wood floors in the house, too.)

I expect you could use the same "floating floor" technique with the 3/8
planks you're looking at.
