Re: [A/S] SAT TV

The second receiver with a new access card is only $5 a month and an entire
single dish unit costs $49 at many locations. Wal-Mart matched another
outlet price of $49 for mine. You might have to shop around for a while
before you find the right deal. The receivers don't last forever and my
original 1996$1000 unit finally croaked. $49 wouldn't even cover the
shipping to get the old one repaired.

With the thread going the way it is, I can attest to the fact that purchase
of a used unit can be a catastrophe. Before the used card can be activated,
it must be sent to DirecTV. You'll have to pay for all the "UNPAID"
programming plus an activation fee. When buying new receivers in stores,
always check to be sure that the box is unopened and that it has a sealed
access card.

I friend has bought the burned in access cards twice and DirecTV toasted
both of them in short order. Another friend bought a receiver that was
taken out of service several years earlier and found that it worked with all
the original programming. Like DirecTV stopped sending the disable signal
after such a long period?

IMHO, buy an inexpensive receiver and get it activated rather than moving
the card or the old receiver.
