I don't think it is a problem for most folks, but my dead-bolt was very 
short, as I explained earlier. Sounds like you don't have a dead-bolt at 
all you could use for this purpose. You might want to do what I did:

I stopped at a hardware store and bought a little "barrel bolt" latch. I 
installed it at the bottom of the door, with the sliding part on the 
trailer and the small part on the door. It is pretty unobtrusive, and when 
latched there is no way the door is going to open.

It was only $2-3 at a hardware store and went on in 5 minutes (I had a 
battery electric drill with me). I installed it through the trim strip, 
then painted it to match the color of the strip.
