I'm using the cheapest ($25) Lux heat/cool programable home thermostat for
heat control only in my A/S.  The internal relay is rated for 2 amps @ 30
volts dc in addition to 24 vac IIRC. Power for the electronics is supplied
by 2 AAA batteries.  It has been working fine for a few months now.  I
bought the thermostat at Home Depot.
