Jim,

I'd get some belt leather or something similar to protect the wooden edge of the cabinetry, and 
try teasing a fairly wide taping or putty knife between the blue panel and the front edge of the
cabinet.  Probably just a glued in place panel with fabric wrapped over the edges and perhaps 
some kind of batting to fill it out.
