Kip,

I have a 98 Ram 1500, and pull a 31' Excella with it.  It has the 
towing package, modified exhaust system, and the K/N air filter.  
Towing that weight doesn't seem to strain the engine, or the trans as 
far as I can tell.

That said, I do know that I am at my max GVTW.  With the low interest 
rates, I've again started thinking about getting a Ram diesel.  I 
don't know if I should move up to the 2500 or not.  I read on Edmunds 
that the Ford 250 rides like a truck when it's not towing.  Edmunds 
had a nice article on the 02 Ram 1500, but no pricing for any of the 
02 models yet.  They sound pretty nice.  What do you think?
