 The Dodge transmission was changed in 1994 to one using a lockup torque
convertor, it's a 47RH in the 3/4-ton models.

There's a couple of problems: first, the transmission probably isn't the
best, but it ain't that bad, either. Guys are hopping that Cummins up to
300+HP and making the tranny live. Mine went well over 100K miles before
I overhauled it, and that was not because of a failure of the tranny
itself, but a bad seal that caused trouble only when the truck was cold.
It was fine otherwise, and looked to me to be good for another 100K
miles. Mind you, the truck had had a gooseneck hitch installed at one
time, so I assume it was used for fairly heavy towing.

The second problem is finding someone competent to overhaul the tranny.
I've never heard anyone put "good service" and "Dodge dealer" in the
same paragraph, let alone same sentence. And saying "Honest Transmission
Shop" is like saying "Honest Used Car Salesman". :-(
