Re: [A/S] Yikes! Wiring, rewiring, grounding...Please advise

Mary,

It is acceptable under electrical code to replace 2-prong plug
receptacles with 3 prong IF the circuit has "ground fault protection".
The easiest way to do this is with a GFI breaker in the breaker panel if
you have one, and if one is available for you brand panel. Home
improvement stores have common ones, electrical supply places may be
able to get oddballs.

You can use an receptacle with GFI built into it, the problem you may
run into is that these receptacles are much bigger that the old ones.
depending on the type of box it fits in, it may not fit. Don't jam it
in, as it can pinch and short the wires.

Don't use the trailer skin as a ground for 120 volts. the whole purpose
of a ground is to give the current a safe alternate path. If your
landline is not plugged into a properly grounded source you could
electrify the entire skin of your trailer. You would be amazed at how
poor the wiring is in some campgrounds.
