I think you are correct.  It is the 3.43.  I need to check that out for sure. 
 I really like the van.  Gives us lots of room for extra things.  I think I 
will go forward with the 1997 GMC 2500 truck----350 plus the tow package.  
Extended cab and long bed.  A very looooong wheel base.  I like the way it 
handles and I am very familar with the GMC/Chevy 350 engine and the sounds it 
makes.  Just a strong comfort level.  When I get into a Dodge truck, the 
engine sounds like it is going to fly apart--very loose. When I get into a 
Ford, it just doesn't sound like what I am used to hearing.  Strange but 
there it is.  

Thanks for the information everyone has been so kind to contribute.  Hope I 
am lucky enough to buy a used truck that will last a long time.  Only time 
will tell!  Where is the crystal ball?
