Chuck,

Another thought, are you certain the battery connections are not 
reversed?  If you connect a negative ground tow vehicle to a positive 
ground trailer things will pop, but each individually will work.
Does your roof fan run the same way on truck and trailer, if not that is 
a signal that some where something is reversed.  Probably the trailer 
battery.
