Chuck,

The two battery cables should never be connected together.  That will 
take your charge line to ground, draining the tow vehicle battery at 
best, torching your twinkie at worst.  Of course it will
test your circuit breakers/fuses, kind of like testing a bullet by 
pulling the trigger. :^\>
