Re: [A/S] Generators location
Around 1994 as I recall Airstream again offered a generator option. (Not
sure of the date but am sure of the option). It was an Onan Microlite
2800 running on propane and so it was down rated to
2500W. It was located in an enclosed space under one of the side dinette
seats. As with any RV genset installation in was sealed from the inside
and vented to the outside. Unfortunately with the
propane down rating it was not strong enough to run the Penguin series
AC or the microwave. So it was an expensive battery charger.
Over the years our service department has put gensets in several 30'
trailers. They are in the process of putting one in now. They place them
in the rear under the double bed. They have done 6 kW
Honda's and the current project is with a new Onan Micro Quiet 4000. The
Honda's being liquid cooled were very quiet. The Onan spec.'s suggest it
will be quieter yet. With the Honda installation they
balanced the weight by installing 6V batteries in a modified front
compartment. Yes it ate up the GVWR but they are still going strong.
