Re: [A/S] Grand Cherokee and Safari
I see Hunter has passed you on some unsavory tow
history of the Jeep products. My only addition is my
experience towing my old 28' travel trailer with my
Astro EXT van. While the Astro had the capacity to
tow the trailer and it had the extended wheel base, it
was still dificult to deal with in cross winds and
with fast passing tractor trailer traffic. I used a
Reese Dual Cam sway control, and while never getting
into a bad sway condition, I did feel a definite lack
of good tow stability.
I sold the Astro and changed to a full sized Chevy
Express van. While I only picked up another 500 lbs.
towing capacity, the difference in stability was very
evident. Now you combine than stability with an A/S
like my new Safari, and I have moved another level
higher into the stability range.
Bottom line short wheel base vehicles and trailers
just don't make good combos.

Jack
