If you happen to be traveling via interstate highways, Flying J Truck Stops
are a fairly new chain of fueling stops that cater primarily to
over-the-road commercial trucking.  The chain is spreading rapidly across
the USA.  Flying J's are friendly to the RV community and encourage RVers to
use their facilities.  They also offer a discount card that provides a very
modest $0.01/gallon discount.  Their fuel prices are already equal to or
less than that of their competitors.

Many of their truck stops have special RV fueling lanes established offering
either gasoline or diesel fuel with flow rates (for diesel fuel) that will
not overrun light truck fuel tanks and tank necks as many of the truck lanes
do.  Many of the Flying J RV lanes also offer fresh water connections to
refill your fresh water tanks and a dump station to empty your tanks.  Fresh
water and dumping are provided at no charge.

Flying J's offer a decent, clean restaurant, convenience store, telephones,
weather television, etc.  I have overnighted at several of them by simply
backing in between the parked 18 wheelers.  I have even dropped my trailer
and used my puller to sight see or run errands all day then returned to
spend another night.

I have no connection to Flying J and am not promoting them for any reason
other than I find them to be friendly, convenient, and welcoming to RV
travelers.

Wally Byam intended our Airstreams to be self-contained and they are.
There is really no need for hookups every night unless someone prefers cable
television or a swimming pool.  After many years of searching out and
stopping at RV parks, I have found that avoiding the unnecessary additional
work required to find the park, travel to it, register, park, hook up in the
evening then unhook again in the morning, freedom from occasionally
excessively restrictive rules and regulations, and eliminating the expense
of a parking space is refreshing.  My old female German shepherd always
travels with me and in a truck stop nobody cares if I allow her to wander
around unleashed out in a grassy field behind the truck stop.  Not so of
course in an RV park.

Some of the truckers have simply ignored me and several, probably lonely and
bored from days of travel have been friendly and inclined to strike up a
conversation when I have walked past them and complimented their beautiful
and fancy tractors.
