We thought about it a lot and decided on a TT over a MH. Although we'll
probably never consider anything longer than a couple-month trip (we've
done one of those so far), we still feel we made the right decision.

If your 1976 is in good shape, you already have all the RV you need.
Couple it to a good 3/4-ton tow vehicle, either a van or P/U with
shell/cap/canopy (whatever you call it in your area), install storage
units in the tow vehicle and you're good to go.
