Re: [A/S] Re: Drawtite vs. Warner Brake Controller

We've had this discussion about that here before... My personal feeling is
anyone who tows a 34' 9,800 pound travel trailer with a car the manufacturer
says will tow 2,000 pounds is looking for trouble.

Even if the car can pull and stop the trailer... there are situations that it
is just not enough tow vehicle to do the job.

Imagine a lawyer and jury hearing that you were pulling almost 10,000 pounds
with what is essentially a sports car..... you would lose that lawsuit on
those grounds alone.

Before you take anybody's word for what is a good tow vehicle check the
numbers. Every car and truck has a manufacturer's tow rating.... you can
find it right in the owner's manual.

Never take the word of a person who wants to sell you a trailer. I've seen
salesman tell people that whatever they drove on the lot is is capable of
towing whatever trailer they are interested in.

I learned the hard way when I had a 1/2 ton suburban....... I owned an SOB
for one exit down I-85 and one exit back to the dealer.

The Hensley is a great hitch, I wouldn't tow without mine..... but I wouldn't
hook it up to a VW Big and expect the car to become a safe tow vehicle.
