Joy,

That's the next test after I open up the recepticle. 
The issue is if I move the extension cord to the non
GFI circuit in the garage, (still 20 amp), we don't
get a trip.  That's why I think its a GFI issue not a
dead short but then that doesn't answer the question
as to why a two pronged TV without a ground prong
forces a GFI trip.

I'll keep looking.
