Terry,
We visit assauteague every summer when we go to the beach. Its a different
world in the summer.
As a wildlife refuge every living thing (except the humans) is protected.
This includes the mosquito
population which has been known to drive the wild ponies into the ocean. We
drive through with the windows up and don't get out of the van for any
thing! This time of the year is when the mosquitoes start to come out. I
would not think about camping any later than this.I had considered staying
there this time but the hook ups are hard to come by. I knew I would be
running the heat at night and wanted to be sure I had electricity. In the
summer some the toughest campers I have ever seen keep that place full.
There is very little shade, very little electricity, and few water hook ups.
They look like stranded marines, praying for a helicopter to come get them.
But it is a beautiful place if you go there at the right time.
