I wonder. Carpet is so heavy that I doubt wood would add that much extra 
weight.  Lots of people use "Pergo" type products instead of real wood. Makes 
sense when you are camping. 

My carpet is really showing the stress of fulltiming, especially with two 
dogs, I'm debating whether I should have it cleaned professionally or pull it 
up and put Pergo down.  I saw some wood strips that glue down like vinyl 
tiles. I think they were at Home Depot. 

The big problem is the carpet is laid first, then the furniture put on top,  
I can't imagine being able to successfully remove the carpet without still 
showing some up next to the furniture.
