[A/S] spare

Although AS sez I don't need a spare for my tandem axle AS, I want 
one anyway. I have know for a long time that a chev pickup wheel from 
the 70's has the same bolt pattern as a wheel from a 6 bolt trailer, 
they don't have the same hub diameter. The trailer has a larger hub 
than the pickup. The trailer wheel will fit the truck, but the truck 
wheel won't fit the trailer. I tryed to use one for a spare and was 
smart enough to try the bare wheel on the trailer before mounting the 
tire. No go. Another consideration is the "back set" That is the 
distance from the back of the wheel to the mounting surface or "hub 
face". Don't use a wheel that is wider than the original. Clearances 
between the tire and body may can be a problem. For a mount, just 
drive the trailer to your local welding shop. These guys are 
inventive and can often beat the factory price. Asking is free. And 
does the spare have to be a new tire. To get you 25 miles down the 
freeway to a tire store,  a used tire rolls just as well.   Good
