Re: [A/S] towing

Phil,

Well, you'll have to explain the physics to me. how can you have less than
half or more than half, on either side of a fulcrum, the hitch ball in this
case.

If there is 450# of downward load on the hitch at the ball, then :

     trailer tongue -----n |
                         8===== <----reciever hitch  |
     Leveling bar -------/ |
         <---- thrust to counteract 1/2 |
               the tongue weight (225) |
                                                     |
Downward thrust of tow vehicle = |
to half of tongue load (225#) |
spread out over both axles |
(there's an argument as to how much on each)--> V

In order to have more than half of the tongue weight on the tow vehicle side,
the trailer would need to some how be lightened, as in lifted. Since the Load
leveler would be pulling down on both the trailer and the tow vehicle
(equally), in order to counteract the tongue weight, how is the trailer's
share of the tongue weight reduced (other than half of the tongue load)?
