I thought when I first set up a hitch, that one of the things you do is to
measure the tow vehicle at the front and rear.  Then, after putting the
trailer onto the rear, and adjusting the chains, you could tell how much is
on the vehicle's rear end vs. the front end by seeing the difference in
elevation at the front and rear where you previously measured.

Not withstanding, I always wondered how this procedure would stand up if you
had a heavy duty suspension system which would allow more weight to be
placed onto the back tires vs. the front tires.  I am thinking that you
could put substantially more weight onto the rear end without affecting the
height of the front end.

It is puzzling to me that you can set up a vehicles hitch system with a
scale, but I have never used one.
