Re: [A/S] Dometic Refigator

As you will find on the rvmobile site the "coolant" in an absorption refer is
partly ammonia. When the cooling unit starts to leak that is the primary
indicator. The way absorption refer's are built the cooling unit is a replaceable
component. Looking at the back of a refer that part which is gray on a Dometic
(black or gray on a Norcold) is the cooling unit. The industry practice is to
replace a bad cooling unit with a rebuilt unit. Reputable rebuilt units will have
the same warranty as a new one (usually one year). A rebuilt cooling unit will
cost between $350 and $500 depending on size. Someone who is comfortable with
his/her mechanical abilities would find changing one not too difficult. Otherwise
a typical repair facility would take approximately 2 hours not including removal
from the RV.
