[A/S] Re: Rollover in SUVs, pickups and Suburbans
Jim:
None of those 3 accidents was in a pickup or SUV. The reports
I've read about SUVs indicate that the principle scenario for a
fatality or serious injury was a roll. Maybe the larger vehicle lets
you flop around in your seat harness more than a smaller one.
Your and your wife's experiences are really scary for a
different reason: There's not much you can do about an idiot that
ignores a stop sign and T-bones you. I'm just glad that you were not
seriously injured in any of them. I do think that most of the
pickup/SUV rollovers, other than those caused by tire failures, are
the result of hitting a curbing or a guard rail or a steep drainage
ditch.
Your comments about going out and practicing with our vehicle
are very well taken and appreciated. We've done some of that, but
not
enough. We also need to take the trailer out with us and try more
panic stops with it. I hope everyone who hasn't taken their rigs out
for some panic/emergency stops will plan to do so soon.
