Re: [A/S] Explorer Stability?

With all the problems they have had with Firestone tires blowing out I have
to wonder if there's not something intrinsically wrong with the way they are
designed and balanced. They have a high center of gravity and a short
wheelbase.

One of the people I spoke with recently about the Explorer problems mentioned
the known problems with Explorers and GOODYEAR tires as well. He said Ford
knows their Explorer is too light in back, regularly requests owners keep the
rear tires underinflated, and hence the problems. When the new Firestone
President took the reins this week he specifically avoided mentioning any
defect in his company's tires, and said outright we don't know what the
problem with.

In short, the scuttlebutt is that the Explorer is flawed by design, Ford has
been trying to compensate by underinflating tires, and now they have decided
to blame the tire manufacturers when the tires finally blow. So few Goodyears
were placed on the Explorers that they have successfully hidden the problems
with both Goodyear, but not with Firestone tires.

That is one opinion.
