[A/S] Vintage Rally at Olema, CA

We just returned home from the rally, our first as members of VAC, and
we really had a great time. The location was just great, the weather
fine, and the company was outstanding. What a trip! Meeting all these
people and seeing all the great Airstreams, and gathering tips on how to
and what not to do.

Brian Burkhart, author of Airstream - The History of the Land Yacht, was
there busily taking pictures, and R.J. Dial was photographing everything
for web publication.

Just to let the cat peek out of the bag, I've posted a few of my own
pics on the e-groups site. Go to
http://www.egroups.com/group/AirstreamList and click on Files, then on
Olema to open the folder. Or, click on one of the following images to
see the same picture. I'm sure you'll enjoy what you see.

What a great trip. 1,869 miles round trip for us, pulling the 31' Sovereign at just over 7,000 lbs. The tow vehicle is a 1999 Dodge 1500 Quad Cab, 5.9 liter V8 and 3.53 rear end with the factory tow package. It's a very nice combination, and we had no problems at all. Speeds in CA were about 60 mph, 65 in AZ, and the gas mileage was about 10.4 mpg. Not too bad. California gas is expensive! $1.97 to $2.05 a gallon for regular unleaded in the L.A. area, $1.79 to $1.89 in Northern CA. I thought that $1.37 was high here in AZ, but won't complain anymore, :-) I have to brag a bit here. The dog in the picture of Tom Toedter's rig is my Springer, Abby. Brian and RJ wanted her to pose in front of the setup, so I gave her the "sit" and "down" commands, which she always obeys. Then I said "stay", which is pretty iffy for her. Darned if she didn't stay there for almost ten minutes, a new record. Now if she'd only do that regularly, I'd be happy. Anyway, Leslie and I were mighty impressed with all the people we met and the trailers that were there, and dan hardly wait until next Spring when it happens at Bass Lake, CA. Hope you enjoy the pictures. -- Roger Hightower 1975 31' Sovereign....WBCCI 4165....VAC mailto:n7kt@worldnet.att.net
