Sandy, I have a Ram 2500 4x4 diesel also. To guard against overheating the
transmission, I put a 5 gallon bucket of water in the bed of the pickup and
with a 12 volt pump beside it. A small rubber hose was run from the pump to
the radiators in front. With a few pin holes in the hose for water to spray
on the radiators and the end of the hose blocked, I can watch the
transmission temperature gauge reading decrease when the pump is turned on
by a switch beside the steering column. I thought you might be interested
since you seem to like to improve your rig.
