Don,
 I'm using a couple of flourescent lights from Camping World; they're 21
watt, and use a 120-volt Circline lamp. All flourescent lamps require
fairly high voltage, they won't operate on 12VDC directly. As you
surmise, the "12-volt" jobs have an inverter builtin to the ballast.

You should have power to burn with 2 85-watt panels. BTW: the e-Meter by
Cruising Equipment is sold under a number of different names, including
Link. You sound like my kind of guy when it comes to wiring! <<grin>>
