One thing I forgot to mention in my previous e-mail:

The new cover that I got is made out of the "new" skin material.  If 
you've noticed that the new Airstream models have a kind of "satin" sheen 
to them, it is because the sheet metal is coated with some kind of 
plastic veneer quite different from the plasticoat (sp?)in earlier 
models.  I imagine that if one were to try to cut and weld this stuff, 
that it would cause the coating to blister off in the heat affected zone 
and present another problem.

The only other way that I know of to shorten the cover is to cut it and 
rivet it back together.

Like they say, "You can do it the easy way....or the hard way".
