Gordon...Gray water tanks were installed starting in 1973...I have a 72
with no gray water tank. After much wonderful feedback from the list,
I have determined that I don't "need" one...A portable blue tank will be
just fine, making it possible to stay longer periods in one location without
having to move and dump...Just pull the wheeled tank to the dump and back
to trailer. Our camping style is to go and stay in one place for
several days...With an installed gray water tank, we would have to move
every other day(?) to dump...The unhooking/dumping/backing in and rehooking,
that often, is not my idea of fun activities for a vacation...
For the times we will stop between camps for lunch and have need of handwashing facilities, etc. I am installing an additional valve in the sewer line after the gray water/black water "Y." I have a rear black water tank, which will be dumped and rinsed upon leaving a campground. In this configuration, I can leave the new valve closed and open the black water tank valve and have enough capacity for lunch preparation needs without having to use my portable tank or allowing the gray water to flow out onto the ground. In a water conservative mode, I would not create enough water weight in the rear black water tank to cause tail droop problems. This is how we are dealing with our lack of gray water tank...FWIW. You'll have to look at your needs/style/wallet$ and decide your gray water needs. Judy
