An old timer who knows Airstreams here in the park suggested that I close 
off my valve and treat it with silicon, then working it back and forth.  He 
said it would be best for me to keep the valve closed even while hooked up 
in the park and to use deodorant and flush it every couple days.

He gave me a wand and said use it a couple times a month.  It seems like a 
lot of work when one can just open the valve and let everything go into the 
city septic.

Apparently this regimen keeps the black water tank and system clean and 
ready to go traveling.  Is that the main reason?
