Re: [a/s] Looking at a '68?
Greetings,
We are also somewhat new and just bought a '66 24' Trade Wind for $3,000.
Very clean inside and shiny and almost dent free outside. Even had all the
original papers and owners manual. However, Airstream-itis made us overlook
a few wee clues and I would recommend:
1. Look for signs of flooding or leaks. Rust underneath or water marks low
on the interior wood are good clues. Can mean rot in the floor and appliance
troubles.
2. Have a certified propane mechanic look at ALL gas appliances. (We found
there had been a recall on the furnace which means we need a new one.)
3. Check the 110 volt and interior 12 volt systems. Ours has aluminum wire
which didn't work out in residental use and needs to be watched for loosened
connections.
4. Check the running gear like you would a used car. Lights, wheels/tires,
bearings, brakes, hitch, etc.
