Hunter, the lowest powered after market electric hot water heater element
that I have encountered was 600 watts. Which is equivalent to: 10 - 60 watt
light bulbs or a very small microwave is 600 to 900 watts. Microwave ovens
are used momentarily. Hot water heater elements are usually on for quite
some time. You would be best served by unplugging or turning off your
electric hot water heating element when you are in "brown out" or low
voltage conditions. Joe from Long Island.
