A heat pump is very efficient in a range of plus or minus 20 degrees off the
ambient temperature. If you want to keep a temperature of 70 degrees, and the
outside temperature is between 50 degrees and 90 degrees , you will be hard
pressed to find a more efficient unit. The unit will work for another plus or
minus 20 degrees, but the efficiency drops off enough to make it a poor choice
for a unit in that outside temperature range.
For those people that must have the book and page for all technical answers, I
don't have my text book in front of me, but you can find the data in any
technical manual about heating and air conditioning.
