In January we met a couple at the Guadalupe Mountains National Park just
south of Carlsbad, NM. We pulled up into the camping area and noticed
their 20' Argosy right away. It was painted GI Green with various other
decorations like dogs and a flower garden and a flag, etc. painted on it
in a style that any true Deadhead would have been proud of. They were
early fifties and had just walked of their jobs of thirty years. They
had a new Dodge 2500 Ram Cummins diesel 4X4 and after talking with them
awhile they admitted that the Argosy walls were beginning to move in on
them. They were from New York and were headed to Alaska eventually on
their first trailering adventure. They showed us their Argosy and we
showed them our Airstream , a '90 25'. They were were amazed at the
room. I don't think they had ever seen a later model A/S before, but
they immediately wanted to know how much we had given for it. I told
them I had seen a similar unit at the A/S dealer in Tucson priced at
about $12,500, and I think they were going to go there and check it out.
The point is that they had the tow vehicle to handle anything they
should want to pull and the Argosy was just toooo small. In the final
analysis you have to decide what suits your needs. I will probably look
for a 29 footer for my next A/S, but I am quite happy with my 25'. For
us anything smaller would get cramped very fast. 

If anyone in the western US happens to see that Argosy, let me know. I
would like to know if it is still on the road to Alaska or if it has
found a new owner from the used A/S lot in Tucson.

Oh, I have owned two VW campers, both 1970 models. Had a lot of fun in
those for sure.
