Re: [a/s] Suburban furnace blower

Well, the furnace housing stays in place, you need only remove the inner
workings, which come out in one piece.

1) shut off the gas supply to the furnace (if your coach has individual shutoff
valves for each appliance, you may not need to shut off the main gas valve, but
it may be safer to do so)

2) remove the front cover from the furnace housing (2 screws)

3) disconnect the gas pipe and unscrew the elbow connection which protrudes
through the side of the housing to connect with the gas pipe (that elbow will
otherwise prevent you from sliding the furnace out)

4) unplug the electrical connector from the side of the furnace

5) remove the screws attaching the furnace -- there is one long one outside, in
the center crosspiece of the exhaust vent, and two or three inside, fastening
the furnace baseplate down to the sheet metal housing

6) you may also need to remove any screws inside the housing, in front of the
furnace, whose projecting heads would otherwise prevent you from sliding the
furnace out ... it is a rather tight fit ... I had to remove the screws
connecting the housing to the hot air distribution plenum

7) slide the furnace out of its enclosure ... you will need to do quite a bit of
wiggling to get it started .. if it won't wiggle at all, there is probably a
screw somewhere you overlooked ...

8) sliding it back in is a two-person job ... you need one person outside to
line up the tubes, using a long screwdriver or similar tool, while the other
person pushes (gently) from inside

7) when re-installing it, line up and insert the inside screws before tightening
the long outside one, otherwise you may find you have pulled it too far into the
housing ... don't overtighten the outside screw, you will just bend the
crosspiece in the exhaust outlet
