I am not kidding, but am mistaken.  When we traveled from Tempe Az to
Toronto my mindset was going North.  Obviously we traveled West to East
along the top of Arizona and New Mexico.  But after traveling for a while in
the Texas panhandle my mindset was South to North.  Clearly we had still to
go Easterly to approach the same longitude as Toronto and I40 would have
helped to achieve that.

Sorry about my comment without first looking at a map.  The map I was using
when traveling was on my computer, Map'n'Go.  On it one only sees tiny
sections of the route at a time.  The highlighted area shows the route we
want to take and the little green arrows also on the computer screen show
where we are.  So all I ever cared about was that the green arrows followed
the highlighted area.

My wife, on the other hand, prefers the "big picture."  She frequently had
the atlas open on her lap.  Consequently, she would have known that I40 is
an East/West highway.
