You're kidding right?  In case you're not........  I-40 goes from Ft. Smith 
to Memphis.... almost a straight line West to East.  Little Rock is a bit 
south of both cities so I-40 dips down a bit south east then back up a bit 
north east.

As I 40 goes from the Atlantic Ocean to California it is an East West 
Road.... but it's not a straight line. it does make some ups and downs.

My favorite part is the drive between Asheville and Knoxville, through the 
mountains.  It's awesome.  Actually I haven't driven much more of it.  I will 
this coming summer....
