I'm not talking about scamming the government.  It is perfectly all
right to change your residence for any reason you choose.  You can move
to a new state to take better advantage of tax laws, just as you can
move cause you like the weather or the scenery..  All you have to do is
satisfy the residency requirements.  Changing your driver's license and
moving to a trailer park in the new state for part of the year may be
part of the deal. Once you've done that, you may be on the road forever
and still be a state resident. I've owned property in other states and
if I'd wanted to, I could have changed residency to any one of those
states even if I wanted to do it for tax savings, but property ownership
is not a requirement in any state.  It would be illegal to claim
residency in another state if it required 6 months residency and you
didn't actually live there.  Just be on the up and up.  It is nobody's
business where you choose to live nor why you do it.   That's America!
