Phil and other listies,

I had an occasion to be with (some friends), a camping couple who lost their
transmission in their 1997 1500 Chevy pickup while crossing the flatlands of
middle IL.  They were towing a 29' Holiday Rambler TT.  After we waited 2
hours for a trooper to come by and were able to make a phone call to a local
garage, they towed both the truck and the trailer away to the local Chevy
garage 10+ miles away.  All at once!

I followed with my Suburban and 31' A/S.  The tow truck didn't fool around,
he was booking it pretty good, but it seemed to go ok.

I thought it was pretty much a standard practice to perform such tows; I
didn't give it much thought as to being a dangerous condition.  Afterall,
the tow truck driver seemed like he knew what he was doing and the trooper
didn't pay no never mind either.(;>)~

To complete the story:

It was a Sunday, so the truck wasn't going to be looked at until
Monday--maybe.  So, we went to a Coast to Coast cg nearby and were greeted
with open arms even though we weren't members.  They were terrific!

They didn't charge us 1 cent for 3 days of camping for 2 trailers.  They did
say that they wanted us to be very discreet when talking to other members
camping there.  They had no way of charging us--because we weren't members
and they didn't have a fee schedule for non-members.  One thing was strange
about this campground....none of the sites were sewered.
