The original type awning is a project I've yet to get to (except in my own
mind).

Thinking about the process of sliding the awning welt through the awning
track becoming a 2 man project why not take a queue from the mainsail on a
sailboat? I've hoisted plenty of sails up the mast, and they are frequently
no more than a welt inserted into a track. A pulley securely mounted at the
top of the mast through which a line is attached to the lead "clew" of the
sail serves to guide the sail up the mast.

Why not mount a pulley at one end of the awning rail? Maybe then a one
person operation.
