[VAC] Cyclo vs DeWalt orbital sanders and polishers

Excuse my ignorance, I'm a newbie  

Has anyone used a round orbital sander like a DeWalt (
I have a 5", DW423K, (3/32 inch orbital) and 6",
DW444, (3/16 inch orbital).  I see that a 600 grit is
available in the 5 inch.  My sanders have variable
speed but don't go to 0.  

OR how about a DW849 DeWalt polisher that can go down
to 0 rpm?
