I suspect your theory that the Tekonsha works well enough for smaller
trailers is probably correct.  Towing a lighter trailer, the tow truck's
brakes can probably more easily and more quickly provide momentum to swing
the pendulum but with the larger, heavier trailers, there is a lot of mass
back there pushing for the tow truck to snub them down as easily.
