For the last several years Airstream has mounted a wall switch to control the converter.
The Magnetek that they had been using had a definite hum will running. The switch allowed
the owner to turn it off when it was annoying. The trick was to remember to turn it back
on to keep the batteries from running down to much. In recent years Airstream has
installed Inverters, both as standard and optional depending on the coach. Most of the
installations are on motorhomes. Usually they are limited to powering the TV/VCR. On the
bigger motorhomes a larger Inverter option actually powers the microwave oven. The jump
from small electronics (400 watts or less) to big stuff like a microwave (2000 watts or
so) is a substantial $$ amount.
