[A/S] generators

I cannot figure out why one would need to run a generator 24 hours a
day. Or even 10 or 12. Don't we have batteries in these things? What are
you running besides a radio and lights?

Solar panels to keep your battery topped up are a lot cheaper than
keeping a generator running. Might take some watts, tho.
I lived on 150 watts of solar panels for a couple of years with mains
current off for weeks at a time. If we only used the TV for an hour a
day the generator was never fired up. Charging cell phones, radio and
lights could run forever on those panels, even with intermittent clouds
and rain.

Get an inverter and a solar panel if you are camping off grid. It is a
lot cheaper than a big generator in the long term.
