We had a small 3-way on a previous camper.  It didn't hold it's own on 12v.  The 2-way is 
designed to operate while in motion.  The American legal system would have eliminated 
the propane in motion option if there were a significant risk.  

I might be more interested in finding out the price difference and recovering a portion of 
that.  Keep the 2-way.  Turn it off when approaching gasoline pumps.
