In looking over the powerwerx site, their descriptions seem to 
indicate that 16-18 gauge will handle 15 amps and 12-14 gauge will 
handle 30 amps. 

Based on what Craig learned (later post) the wire to the 12 Volt TV 
socket is 12 gauge, so that leg is no problem. And Craig also learned 
that the pigtail to the actual 12 Volt TV socket is 16-18 gauge, so 
that would handle the 15 amps. 

Are you saying that the 12 Volt TV socket itself could fail to handle 
a 15 amp load? 

Is it something about the way those cigarette style plugs and sockets 
connect?
