Hmmm... mine wasn't too wide so I hung my shower curtain.

A thought.  A towel rack.  Screw it up inside the shower at shower curtain 
height, across the doorway.  You'll screw up the two ends, then cut the actual 
bar to fit the span.

Get one that doesn't stick out too far.

Another thought. You know those clotheslines that come out of a round 
container when needed.

Use one and string the line through the curtain's grommet holes.
