Hi Warren,
There shouldn't be a need for E rated tires for your Sovereign.  I'm running 
Goodyear Marathon C rated on my '86 Sovereign 25' but ran Carlisle D rated 
on the '77 Excella 500.  I see no problem with running D rated tires with 
metal valve stems.
